Alberta's proposed methane regulations are "considerably weaker" than federal regulations
Environmental organizations are seeking tougher methane reduction regulations in Alberta. Compared to the proposed federal methane regulations, Alberta's draft regulations are weaker and don't have the same result.
The David Suzuki Foundation, Environmental Defence and the Pembina Institute submitted a joint letter to the province, according to an article published by CBC on June 28, 2018.
"The amount of methane that can be permitted per oil and gas site for venting is 12 times higher in Alberta than it is federally," said Dale Marshall from Environmental Defence.
The submission has similar concerns outlined in the open letter submitted by Protect Alberta to the provincial government.
